Artist Response

The artist that I chose to look at was Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny. I was drawn to his work because he was so unique with his choice of material, shape, and overall composition. Libertiny was born in Slovakia, his father was an engineer, which was a career that Tomas planned on following. He started going to college for engineering, but dropped out shortly after and applied to the Design Academy in Eindhoven to pursue art. Tomas is a dutch artist, he now, after a long struggle through the Design Academy, has graduated. He graduated in 2007, and the piece that made it happen was the one that I am getting my inspiration from, "Made By Bees." This piece is a vase, that was made by thousands and thousands of bees. Well the honey comb was, Tomas did the rest.
I think that Tomas is trying to creature natures works combined with man made things to make beautiful artwork. Some say that he likes to make his artwork totally opposite of a multi-purposed object. Meaning that he likes each thing in life to have their own things accompanying them, like how a certain table could be used for writing on, but not sewing on, things like that. Tomas is exploring the idea of mixing together different creations, making his mold, and then letting nature do the rest, which is pretty awesome. Something that seems to be a huge things for Tomas is repetition. In his other pieces that he has made he seems to really focus on making a ton of his artwork, as in duplicated. The pattern of a honeycomb is right up his ally. To be totally honest not many artists are very engaged with Tomas, he is an up and coming artist, and as of right now he has five interns to his name, along with his studio in Rotterdam.
